And you, for your part, you publish excellent content several times a week for months without seeing any results. So you’re always looking for new hacks and techniques to drive your traffic like successful bloggers have done.
The problem with using these tips is that you are just wasting your time when you could focus on the basics and get immediate results.
For this, you have to think differently. You have to go and get traffic where it is already abundantly present. That is to say ?
On influential blogs on your subject, those who are authoritative and who, with each new article, attract thousands of visitors, generate dozens of comments and hundreds of shares.

The technique I’m going to talk to you about today is: writing guest articles. For those of you who have never heard of it, the idea is simple to understand. It’s just an article you’re writing and that’s published on a blog other than your own.
You then think that I am mad and you say to yourself: “Why would I spend time creating an article to make another blog fat than mine? And who is one of my competitors. ”
Wait, don’t leave right now, I’ll explain why you should read the rest of the article.
Guest article is a win-win method. The host blog author gets a new blog post and you, as a guest, get traffic. And the funniest thing is that this method is accessible to all bloggers regardless of their topic and their current traffic level.
But writing a guest article brings far more benefits than being able to increase your traffic.
Here are the advantages of publishing a guest article:
- Increases your notoriety and credibility. By posting on a big blog, you are automatically read by thousands of visitors. And by publishing on large blogs, the expert blogger transfers to you part of his authority in the thematic, which immediately reinforces your words and your credibility;
- Improve your SEO in the long run thanks to quality backlinks that you have dragged into the article. When writing guest articles, you generally have the right to insert 2-3 links pointing to your own blog;
- Attracts targeted traffic to your blog. If your article appeals to readers, some of them will go to your blog to find out more;

Determine your goals
The first step before you start writing guest articles is to ask yourself what your goals are.
Guest articles allow you to improve three elements in your blog:
- Your level of expertise in the subject;
- Your short term traffic;
- And your medium to long term traffic thanks to SEO.
The type of blog you will contact to offer your guest articles will have to meet your objectives. For example, if you decide that short-term traffic improves your image as an expert is a priority, then you will need to target blogs with high traffic, as well as a committed community.
On the contrary, if you want above all to improve your natural referencing thanks to backlinks, it will be more interesting to target blogs with a strong authority (Domain Authority). Having comments, shares and visitors on your blog is not essential for you.
Of course, it is possible to fulfill these 3 objectives, with the good content published on one of the most influential blogs in your field. This is what brings us to the next part.
Find interesting blogs to write your guest articles
1. List the big blogs on your topic
If you’ve never published guest articles, you are now wondering where you can find blogs that agree to publish. Before showing you how, I invite you to always publish on blogs:
- On the same theme as you. If this is not possible, find the blogs closest to it;
- Having authority, that is to say having the confidence of Google and being able to bring you backlinks with a strong impact on your natural referencing.
What I advise you to do is to write down all the blogs on your topic that you know. Then you can start your search on Google by typing queries like:
- “Write a guest article” + “your theme”;
- “Guest article” + “your theme”;
- “Publish a guest article” + “your theme”;
- “Write a guest article” + “your theme”.
You can complete your research thanks to Twitter, by typing the request: “guest article” + “your topic”. This will allow you to locate the blogs of your topic that have recently accepted guest articles.
Another way to find blogs that agree to publish guest articles is to analyze the origin of your competitors’ backlinks, and thus track which blogs your competitors have published guest articles on. A simple tool to analyze any site is Open Site Explorer. Just enter the email address of the site of your choice and all the backlinks referring to it are visible to you.
But don’t limit yourself to that. Some blogs may accept guest articles without advertising on their blog.
2. Classify these blogs
Once you have a good list of blogs, it’s time to rank them to bring out the best blogs.
To classify them, we will base ourselves on the three objectives: to increase the perceived expertise, the short term traffic and the long term traffic, respectively thanks to the following three criteria: “number of monthly visitors”, “Number of average comments “And the” Domain Authority “of the blog.
The easiest way to do this is to open an Excel file, then:
- Create 5 columns: “Blog Influent”, “Site URL”, “Domain Authority”, “Number of monthly visitors”, “Average number of comments”;
- Fill in the “Blog Influent” and “Site URL” columns;
- Complete the “Domain Authority” and “Number of monthly visitors” using the Open Site Explorer tool from Moz and SimilarWeb;
- Complete the column “Average number of comments” by averaging the number of comments for the last three articles published;
- And finally, do a descending sort to bring out the blogs with the most interests. The handling is simple: click on “Data”, “Sort” then add several sorting criteria, taking care to select “sort from largest to smallest”.
Prepare your request
3. Know the content of the blog
At this point, you know which blogs are most interesting for posting your guest articles. But before you rush in and contact these bloggers, I suggest you prepare to maximize your chances of getting a positive response.
And this preparation begins with know the blog you are requesting. It’s the minimum. Take the time to read some of his articles to identify the audience and analyze the angle used to treat the theme.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- What is the audience for this blog? Are these B2B businesses, freelancers, individuals? What is the main problem of the readers of this blog?
- What is the level of expertise in the field of readers: beginners, intermediates, experts?
- What type of content does the blogger write above all? Does he favor list articles, infographics, case studies?
4. Analyze previous guest articles
It is always interesting to compare guest items that work and those that don’t.
It’s a great way to understand why certain items perform better. You can learn from bad guest articles and learn from those that have received positive feedback.
5. Identify ideas that appeal to readers
Some article ideas grab readers better. This is one of the reasons why top articles are top articles. These articles hit the nail on the head for readers. That’s why they like it so much.
Identifying articles that appeal to you will help you better understand what appeals to the blog audience. You’ll know exactly what kind of ideas to write your guest article.
6. Getting noticed
Do you usually ask something from a total stranger? It’s very unlikely. Even less if the demand requires a strong commitment, like that of risking your reputation and your business.
Because yes, when a blogger agrees to publish you, he trusts your content, taking the risk of dissatisfying his audience and negatively impacting both his image as an expert and the income they derive from his blog.
The easiest way to positively prepare a blogger to receive a guest article from you is to build a relationship of trust upstream of your request. To start this relationship of trust, here is what you need to do:
- Leave quality comments on the blog;
- Share the articles of the blog concerned;

7. Send the email from your “professional” address
Contacting bloggers with an address similar to your blog helps to convey a professional image of you.
You can then say yes, but me, my email is pro since it is my first and last name: “[email protected]”. It’s better, for sure.
But the best thing is to have an email address like your blog. As an example, we can take my email address which is: [email protected] That way, just from the email, bloggers can identify who I am.
If you have your own accommodation at OVH or 1and1 for example, you can easily create your professional email address. Do it, it takes less than 5 min.
8. Clear and straightforward email subject
The subject of an email is fundamental, it determines whether the recipient will open your email or not. This also applies when you send an email to another blogger.
Here, the email doesn’t need to deliver a specific promise. Simply allow the blogger to quickly identify the subject of your email and if he should take an interest in it.
Here are some examples :
- Guest article: [Nom de votre article]
- Proposal invited article: [Nom de votre article]
9. Use the first name of the blogger
Personalized emails draw more attention and subconsciously push our minds to spend time on them. It starts by adding the first name of the blogger rather than addressing the email with a general formulation.
You can find this information easily by going to the “About” page of their blog. Use their first name at the beginning of the email to make them feel affected by your message.
10. Introduce yourself briefly
Then introduce yourself in a sentence or two, explaining to the blogger what the name of your blog is and what topic you are dealing with. No need to make it longer.
Ex: I am Xavier from the blog Devenir Infopreneur, intended for bloggers who want to learn how to get their traffic off the ground.
11. Insert an attachment point in the email intro
If you’ve taken the time to read the blogs that interest you, you know who the authors are and what their values, approaches and visions are. All you have to do is to use one of its points in common with you to relax the email atmosphere and bring the blogger closer to you.
If you’ve already talked to the blogger, you don’t necessarily have to make that effort. You can, instead, remind the blogger that you had exchanged with him in comments of his article X, by email, on Twitter. Just enough to remind him of who you are.
And in the ultimate case in which you have been trading for a long time, simply ask them.
12. Respect the rules for submitting invited articles
Read the rules for submitting guest articles and follow them without exception. The rules can concern the length of the article, the number of authorized backlinks …
Does he prefer that you send him article ideas first? Or directly an article written and finished?
Do you need to provide the article in Word in HTML format? Or do you need to provide him with an email address before he can create an author account for you on the blog?
Lots of little details that you better know before contacting the blogger. Otherwise, you may annoy the person and have your proposal rejected immediately.
13. Find and propose new article ideas
You now know which articles have worked best. So you can find article ideas that fit both the blog audience and the audience you want to attract to yours.
But before going headlong, proposing your ideas or writing your guest article, think about check that the blog has not already published the article you have in mind. It is useless to suggest an idea that has already been covered. You waste your blogger’s time and lose yours.
14. Demonstrate your expertise
What is the best way to convince the blogger to trust you? It’s very simple: prove your expertise to him. You have several solutions:
- Quote the big blogs which agreed to publish you;
- Include links to some of your best articles;
- Talk about the numbers that your last guest article reached in terms of shares for example.
Show that you are competent, but without showing that you are the best, or the king of your theme. Otherwise, you would have the opposite effect.
15. Review and treat your email
You have finished writing your email. Your article proposal is ready to be sent, just click on the “Send” button. Here we go.
But wait, did you take care to read your email again? Because I remind you, this email is your only chance to convince the blogger to accept your guest article. So take the time to read it again, correct spelling and syntax errors if there are any.
If you are not able to write a faultless email, very few people will trust you to write an article …
16. Be understanding
You will not always receive a response to your proposed guest article. Which is normal.
The blogger may have deleted it by mistake, or your email may have gone to the spam bin. Then try again to send an email to the blogger asking if they have received your article proposal. Give him back all the information you sent him in the first email.
In the event that he did not receive it, he will be able to process your request and respond to you. Despite everything, if after your revival the blogger does not answer you, do not insist. He is probably not interested in your article and does not necessarily have time to reply to you.
It doesn’t matter, offer your article to someone else, and try again next time.
Write and optimize guest article
17. Choose a catchy title
Your email was convincing, the blogger will then ask you to write the article. But all is not won, he can still refuse to publish you if your article does not suit him.
Here are the characteristics of a catchy title:
- He is empathetic. Take back the vocabulary that the audience uses, you will more easily reach the target readers;
- It highlights a benefit + piques curiosity. A title is nothing more or less there than to give a good reason for the visitor to click. You should clearly articulate the benefit of reading the article and then sprinkle it with a little curiosity. Use the formulas: “secrets”, “5 techniques you should know” …;
- He uses numbers. Quite simply, because titles with numbers generate 36% more clicks than those without.
18. Write an introduction that captures attention
The title of your article has started to attract attention. The introduction will now finish capturing the attention and arousing the interest of the visitor to get him to read the rest of the article.
To build your introductions, you can follow the following structure:
- Involve the reader in the article, by questioning him with an unexpected question or fact;
- Agitate the reader’s problem. Describe your reader’s current situation, fears, problems, difficulties. Now is the time to show empathy and show him that you understand him. The more specific you are, the more your reader will want to read you;
- Bring the solution. The goal is to present your article as the solution to pique the reader’s curiosity. At this point, the visitor can no longer backtrack, your intro has closed on him like a wolf trap.
19. Exceptional content
You have tickled your readers’ problems. You presented your article as the solution to this problem. You no longer have a choice: your article must tear.
But by the way, what characterizes an exceptional article?
- Readability, ergonomics. Titles, subtitles, images, short paragraphs … Everything must be done so that the reader can get as much information as possible at a glance. And especially not to have a wall of text in front of him;
- Generosity. Your article proves your skill level in one area. The more you give, the more people appreciate and trust you;
- Unexpected. Offer something extra in your article. Surprise your readers with exclusive advice, a step-by-step method, a video tutorial, etc.
20. Conclusion that invites action
Finally, we come to the end of your guest article: the conclusion. It has two objectives:
- Motivate your readers to follow the advice in the article. The goal is to give them a little boost and remind them that they too can do it;
- Make your call to action to your bonus content. Now is a good time to transition from article content to bonus content for those who want to go further. Invite readers to click on the link to your capture page to offer them the bonus in return for their email.
Regarding the bonus, you have the choice of offering them a checklist, a private video, an ebook, access to free training, etc. It’s up to you to choose what you prefer, making sure that there is a link between your article and the bonus content you offer.
By the way, you can even create bonus content for each article you write if you have multiple targets, and their problems are different.
21. Optimizing the article for referencing
Here is the checklist I use:
- Search for keywords content / semantic content (title keywords at the beginning);
- Short URL with keyword / permalinks;
- Add tags and category;
- Link with other articles: internal mesh and external link;
- Meta description and meta title;
- Optimization of images;
- Article of more than 2000 words.
22. Respect the formatting of blog articles
Article formatting is different from the rules for submitting your guest article. Even if it is possible that in the guide “Guest article” you have some indications concerning the length of the articles, for example.
When I hear respect for the formatting of articles on the host blog, it’s simply create your article by standardizing it with existing articles. Try to understand the key elements used by the author to structure his articles.
Does it bold text every two paragraphs or once in the article?
Does he use images? How frequently ?
Does it use bulleted lists?
How long is its intro? His conclusion?
23. Adapt to the blog audience
In a single theme, there can be different audiences. And even if the blog that accepts you has an audience very close to yours, you should always adapt to it.
Take the example of bodybuilding, you could have several audiences with very specific needs:
- Strength training after an injury;
- Bodybuilding for bodybuilding practitioners;
- Bodybuilding for women, etc.
You can imagine that the readers of the blog “Building muscle after an injury” will not expect the same advice as followers of the blog “Bodybuilding”.
Try to identify who the blog readers are, their problems. And answer it.
24. Align your tone with that of the blog
This point is to be taken with tweezers since blogs will agree to publish your article even if it goes beyond the usual framework when other blogs are very strict on it. And that can be understood.
If the blog is aimed primarily at professionals, the blogger will expect you to respect a more serious tone. On the contrary, if you write on a blog which is used to making jokes and speaking in a relaxed tone, an article too professorial will not be appropriate.
You are the one making the request, so make sure you adapt to both the audience problem and the tone you want.
25. Include internal and external links
Ah backlinks, this is one of your rewards as a guest. You will be able to insert links pointing to your blog, generally between two and three.
But don’t forget to mention and link to other authority blogs. On the one hand, it’s good for referencing the article and the host blog. And on the other hand, you can then ask the bloggers you mentioned to share your article. A backlink is worth sharing, isn’t it?
Also consider including links to other articles on the blog you are invited to. It is always good to link the contents together, to improve the internal mesh.
26. Facilitate the work of the blogger
The article is written, edited, edited and ready to be published. There are now two options available to you for providing the article to the blogger:
- Either he opened an account on the WordPress of his blog. In this case, no problem, just inform him that the article is finished;
- Or you have to provide it to him so that he can add it to his WordPress editor and publish it. The easiest way to send the article is to format it on your own blog, copy the HTML code, then paste it into a Word and send it. So all the blogger has to do is paste the HTML code into his text editor, then click “Publish”.
Also remember to proofread and correct all spelling and syntax errors. Even if it’s hard to remove them all, try to remove them all.
The article is published, what remains to be done?
27. Promote the article on your side
Your guest article is officially published on the big blog. Is the job finished? Not yet. Now, you will have to promote your content to make it read by as many people as possible.
Here is a simple and effective promotion checklist that I use:
- Send an email to subscribers of the email list;
- Promote the article on social media. Do not hesitate to share your article several times to reach all your fans / followers;
- Contact the influential bloggers you mentioned in your article and ask them to share.
28. Respond to comments
Yes, it is not because it is not your blog that you should not respond to comments that are left. You are the author of the article, so you are the master of comments.
Once the article is published, you should take the time at least for the first week to go to the article to check that no comments are left unanswered.
Responding to comments is your opportunity to further express your expertise. But above all, it’s an opportunity to show the blogger that you didn’t just write the article to catch 2-3 backlinks in the process.
That way you set the stage for future guest articles.
29. Keep track of published articles
What I advise you to do next is to keep all guest articles you have published in an Excel file. In this way, you will be able to check at a glance which blogs you have already published and what kind of article you have written.
It will only take you a few clicks to go to Analytics and find out which articles brought you the most traffic when it was launched, and which articles bring you traffic regularly thanks to SEO.
30. Analyze areas for improvement
Since you have a file with all of your guest posts and the ability to analyze traffic for each of them, you will be able to determine the most effective articles and those which made a flop.
This will allow you to identify the most interesting blogs to publish your guest articles and the type of article that you like the most. So you’ll only have your own focus on these blogs by duplicating the model of articles that work.
