Prepare your online store for Christmas 2021 2021 -

The countdown to the Christmas season has begun. It seems a bit rash to think about sales for this time of year, but remember that almost 40% of customers start buying gifts before Halloween. And with potential supply problems being announced, even more buyers are starting earlier.

Regardless of whether you already have experience in these sales or if it is your first Christmas season selling online, here we give you the best tips in order to prepare your store in the best way for Christmas 2021.

1. Organize the photos of your products

Professional-looking images are the best way to capture a customer’s attention. Even if you already have good photos of your products, try to re-shoot some with winter accessories and holiday backgrounds. For example, now is a good time to swap out those product photos with a summery, outdoor background for ones with a more wintery style.

You can also change the accessories or the style of photography that you usually use, or upload some flat lay photos from above or “flat lay” (ideal for promoting products on Instagram). Green leaf sprigs, gold lights, or a red ribbon can make a regular product look even better for the holidays. We also have good news. We have recently launched our new image editor. Now you can upload your photos to your CWT website and edit them directly in the system. Never before has it been so easy to professionally personalize your images and adapt them to the style of your business.

2. Create gift guides so customers can choose the right product

If you have an online store, you know your products better than anyone. For Christmas, help your clients with Christmas gift guides. That way, they can shop for everyone on their lists and discover new products that they may not have seen.

To put together a holiday gift guide, start by creating different product categories and then add your products to the appropriate categories. For example, you can create a category for “gifts for teenagers”, another for “gifts for less than 50 pounds”, and so on as many as you can think of.

This is also a good time to create a shopping guide more detailed that allows customers to compare different products and choose the ones that best suit what they are looking for. Here we bring you more tips on how to create a buying guide for your online store.

If you sell products that can be combined, you can apply the cross selling. Include links, with photos and descriptions, to matching products. For example, bicycles and inflatable pumps, wine bottles and bottle openers, yoga mats and yoga clothes, etc.

3. Decorate your website with Christmas decorations

At this time of year, any brick-and-mortar store hangs Christmas lights, garlands, and other decorations. You can do the same on your website. Here are some ideas for customizing your website for the holidays:

  • Decorate your icons, your logo and your social media profiles with Christmas styles. Although no business usually changes its logo, Christmas is a fun time to add a touch of humor to your website design, especially since it is temporary. In addition, an updated website with holiday decorations shows that your business is active and ready for Christmas orders. The great thing about having your own website is that you can make all these changes on your own and modify them again as soon as the holidays are over.

4. Check the policies and legal texts of your store

Nobody wants to think about the fine print at Christmas time. However, if you have an online store, it is important that you put the points on the i’s regarding the policies and legal texts of your website

If your business is established in the EU, we recommend that you check out the CWT Legal Text Generator. It is a complement for your web page that will allow you to automatically generate the text for the Legal Notice, the Privacy Policy, the Return Policy and the Conditions of use so that they comply with the current GDPR privacy regulations.

And if strict EU website policies don’t affect you, it’s a good idea to have refund and return policies and other regulations for your store that are clearly written for customers to see. For example, a concise FAQ page that answers the most common questions about returns, customer satisfaction, and shipping times can give your customers more confidence before making a purchase. That way, you also minimize product returns. All these elements, and many more, make up very important trust factors for your website and allow buyers to feel more secure when buying from your store.

5. Offer a Christmas discount code

There is a lot of competition around these parties. With Black Friday, Cyber Monday or the Day without VAT, discounts are the order of the day and do not go unnoticed.

Check the prices of your products first. How have you calculated the final price? What factors have you considered? Take a look at the numbers and find out what value or percentage you can afford so as not to put the stability of your business at risk.

So while it’s not wise to offer discounts that could hurt your finances, giving a small discount can make customers feel special and think they are doing a good deal.

Another idea is to encourage customers to buy again by sending them a special discount code once they have made a purchase from your store. Creating a discount code like THANK YOU and including it on your packaging or in customer emails is a great way to get loyal customers who keep choosing you.

6. Offer free shipping

Customers shopping for holiday gifts often have plenty of online options. What are they missing? Weather!

This is a great opportunity to offer free shipping in your online store. Even if it is a bigger investment at first, it has many benefits. And more during the holidays! Being such a competitive market, offering free shipping can be a determining factor.

The reason? Customers often don’t resist the opportunity to receive their purchases without paying for shipping. In numerous studies on consumer behavior, it is concluded that online customers put their energy into getting free shipping and prefer to spend more money on the purchase as long as they can get that benefit. Also, in many cases, they prefer free shipping over percentage discounts.

And remember, if the majority of your customers live in your neighborhood, you can also set up a free in-person withdrawal option at your CWT online store.

7. Connect your online store with social networks

If you’re a CWT customer, use our Facebook and Instagram integration to automatically sync your store products with your social media profiles. You can also use it to create hassle-free paid advertising, set up the Facebook pixel (the tool that allows you to track the success of your Facebook ads) with ease, and redirect interested shoppers back to your store.

The easiest way to sell is to do it where people buy and let your followers buy from you.

8. Reach out to bloggers who write guides on holiday gifts.

While your website is one of the best spaces to display your products, remember to also get in touch with bloggers who may be writing gift guides. Now that you have the perfect descriptions of your products, start sending links to bloggers as soon as possible.

When it comes to convincing someone, it is always better to do your research first. Bloggers are usually busy and full of requests, especially as Christmas approaches. The more you personalize your arguments in a way that suits the interests of the person writing (and shows that it will not only serve you), the better.

Use your power of conviction and tell why your product is special. Also, including good photos of your products can make a difference.

If it doesn’t work out for the holidays, don’t worry! Starting a good relationship with bloggers now will pay off later.

Christmas can be stressful for both buyers and sellers. However, investing some time now (while you are still enjoying your Halloween treats) will make the season easier for you and allow you to be more successful with your online store.
