Meta tags – SEO WIKI
Meta tags are XHTML and HTML tags that are not intended for visitors to an Internet resource. They carry service information about the web page.
The required attribute for meta tags is “content”.
Meta tags are divided into three groups:
1. For search engines – used to control the indexing of pages and create headings for hypertext texts. Such tags instruct the search engine to index the site with a certain frequency, but in practice, almost all search engine robots do not pay attention to them.
2. Containing commands for the browser – used to improve the information that is issued by the usual headers. They carry information about the encoding of the page. Such tags are especially useful when moving pages.
3. Containing information about the page and its author – used to indicate the owner of the page and the address of its author.
