Search spam – SEO WIKI
Search spam is Internet resources that are created with the aim of manipulating search results and deceiving website visitors.
Search spam distorts the delivery, clogging it with non-informative sites, and complicates the ranking. Earlier in the tags “description” and “meta keywords” popular queries were entered that are not visible to users, but are determined by search robots. As a result, the user, entering a specific query in the search, did not receive the information he was looking for, but got to sites of a different subject. This led to the fact that robots began to pay attention not only to meta tags, but also to the content of the page itself, determining the overall relevance.
Other methods of manipulation leading to search spam:
Invisible text. The text is placed on the page and is made the same color as the background color. As a result, the text is not visible to visitors, but visible to search robots.
One pixel text. The text size is reduced to the minimum possible and also not visible to users. These types of spam are outdated, and search engines can identify such dishonest methods, excluding such sites from the search results.
Link spam. Purchase or installation of a large number of links to one site. Most often, a large number of free sites are created from which links to a specific web resource are affixed. Search robots react to such actions, considering them to be artificial wrapping.
Doorways are specially created and promoted pages that link to the necessary site and redirect the user to it.
Cloaking – masking the content of a site when a visitor sees one thing, and completely different information is shown to search engines.
