TIC and PR – their role in promoting – SEO WIKI
Yandex Themed Citation Index (TIC, canceled since August 2018) and Google PageRank (PR) – aggregated indicators for assessing the quality of website optimization, are calculated based on the reference weight.
The TIC was introduced by Yandex to evaluate sites in 1999 and replaced by a new ICS indicator (site quality index) in 2018.
TIC showed how significant and authoritative the site is, i.e. how often other sites link to it, and how authoritative these sites are (so you can evaluate the degree of trust in them as link sources). These links are tracked by the Yandex search engine, and it determined what level of TIC corresponds to the site. To determine an individual TIC, the search system analyzed not only the frequency of citing information from the site, or in other words, the number of links to the resource, but also the quality of these external links.
Here’s how the official TCI measurement technology describes TCI measurement:
The site’s CY was variable, it could not only grow, but also fall. Checking the site’s TIC took place 1-2 times a month, when Yandex analyzed all Internet resources, and depending on the data received, determined the rating of sites in Yandex.Catalog (which closed in 2017). This indicator determined the relevance (compliance with user requests) of the resource and its position in the search results. You could first find out the site’s CY from Y.Katalog, or using special online services and plug-ins, for example, Yandex.Bar, and after closing the Catalog, the CY was displayed in Yandex.Webmaster.
Google Page Rank
The Google search engine ranking system is called PageRank. If the TIC check shows the total value of the entire site, then PR takes into account the weight of each page of the site in the range from 0 to 10. An important role in increasing this indicator is played by the quantity and quality of external links that lead to the site. The more there are and the more authoritative sites with URLs, the higher the PR score. Recalculations of PageRank indicators occur on average every 3-6 months.
We should also not forget that PR directly affects search results on Google, but TCI indicators are used only for ranking in Yandex.Catalog and have nothing to do with search results. So why then raise these figures?
As mentioned above, the PageRank of your site will affect the position of the site in the Google search engine, and therefore this figure should be increased when optimizing the site. But the TIC is not taken into account and it is usually built up for selling links from the pages of the site or unscrupulous grief optimizers give high TIC indicators for successful promotion, although in reality this is far from the case. The only thing that the TCI can contribute to is getting into Yandex.Catalog free of charge, where there are only sites selected and verified according to Yandex.
You can check the site’s CY and PageRank using simple seo-programs or online services. And if users are not particularly interested in these indicators, then webmasters should carefully monitor them, increasing indicators for successful promotion.
On April 15, 2016, Google completely disabled the display of the toolbar value of PageRank in the browsers and online tools that were used to obtain this information. But despite the closure of the toolbar indicator, the real PageRank is still an important factor in the Google ranking algorithm.
